35 Alexander St.
Yonkers New York 10701
USA 914-377-1900

This will be a great show, spotlighting the showstopping talent of Caleb Hawley and powerful vocals of Sarah J. Caleb. I'll be doing a two-song miniset to open the show.

Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000149 EndHTML:0000001785 StartFragment:0000000199 EndFragment:0000001751 StartSelection:0000000199 EndSelection:0000001751 Caleb Hawley received top honors in the prestigious New York Songwriters Circle Contest (2008 and 2009), the John Lennon Songwriting Contest (2009), the Telluride Festival (2010), the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (2010), and Rocky Mountain Folks Fest (2011) for his songwriting, he also made it to the final fifty on the 2011 American Idol Season. He has shared the stage with Mark Cohn, Rusted Root, Dave Matthews Band, Shawn Mullins, and Edwin McCain.

“(Caleb) captivates audiences with soothing folk tunes in the same manner as James Taylor, and with the next breath blows them away with his powerhouse of soul, likened to that of Stevie Wonder. Audiences leave a Caleb Hawley show with a permanent grin, a heart full of laughter, and a tune to hum the whole way home.” NYC Art Scene

Review for his CD We All Got Problems: “If you were a fly on the wall listening in on your peers’ therapy sessions, this would probably be the soundtrack.”

Our opening act, Sarah J captivates listeners with her emotional delivery and strong stage presence. A versatile musician and prolific songwriter, she is heavily influenced by both her time spent studying opera in college and fronting a hard-rock band that toured the Southeast. She's now settling into her groove as a New York-based singer/songwriter, gigging heavily in support of her new album, "Happier," available at the merch table. "Haunting."–Billboard Magazine.

Tribes Hill Welcomes Robert Hill Band & Toby Walker to Urban H20 - 7pm

35 Alexander St.
Yonkers New York 10701
USA 914-377-1900
Price: $10

I'll be MC'ing this show and doing a song as part of the opening SongCircle, which as of now consists of myself, Honor Finnegan and Ira Levin.

Robert Hill Band “makes us want to slam down some moonshine and start a ballroom blitz” GUITAR PLAYER MAG

Robert Hill grew up North Little Rock, Arkansas, and possesses a unique gumbo of musical styles: urban and deep Delta blues, bluegrass, oldtime country, zydeco, ragtime, cowpunk, gospel, even a polka or two in spots. When you mix it all together, they just call it Rock and Roll. Johnny Cash was born there – what else needs to be said?

Toby Walker is Winner of 2010 NY Music Award for Best Instrumental Album of the Year!

“Flat out… you have to hear this great musician… I’m blown away”- Jorma Kaukonen Hot Tuna, Jefferson Airplane, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee

“As a blues guitar player, I am stunned and in awe of Toby Walker’s pickin’! Add to that his fine songs and singing and friendly presentation, and it’s obvious that Toby Walker is one of the most enjoyable artists in today’s Blues World.” – Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin Guitarist for the late Muddy Waters

“A real killer with fantastic technique. He just knocks me out.”- John Hammond

Tribes Hill’s monthly Song Circle brings together top local songwriters and performers for a spontaneous, joyous, musical exploration of the human experience.  Urban H2O presents these rising Hudson Valley artists in an intimate and informal setting.

“Tribes Hill is a vibrant part of the folk tradition.”  –John Platt, host of WFUV’s “Sunday Breakfast” show

One out of every seven people you pass strolling down a busy sidewalk today, waiting beside you on the subway platform, or seated next to your child in the cafeteria at school is likely to be living in poverty. This is the highest poverty level recorded since the U.S. started keeping such statistics 50 years ago.
In 1971, John Lennon expressed his vision of hope, peace and a world free of poverty through his powerful song “Imagine”. This year, as we celebrate John’s 70th birthday, we continue to enjoy his lyrics that influence and inspire. On this special night, River Spirit Music teams up with IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER, part of a global campaign to benefit WHY – a nonprofit organization that strives to fight against hunger and poverty around the world. 2010 marks the 35th year of WhyHunger, the non-profit organization founded by the late singer-songwriter Harry Chapin and radio talk show host and present Executive Director Bill Ayres. To date, its annual Hungerthon auction has raised over $11 million to help put a stop to hunger and poverty worldwide. For more info, go to www.whyhunger.org

75% of all of the proceeds from this special show will directly benefit WHY and its grassroots partners around the globe, that have developed ways to feed children worldwide who are victims of poverty and also teach them farming and entrepreneurial skills for the future. The remaining 25% of the proceeds will go to the HASTINGS YOUTH COUNCIL to help local families who have fallen through the safety net.
Come hear Rivertowns area performers share the stage for a special show featuring:

Adam Hart and Ken Tuccillo (Acoustic Riverrun)

"It's only a matter of time before the rest of the country takes notice." - Performing Songwriter

 "Inspirational!" - John Hammond

Where David Goldman’s Summer With Juliet was a smorgasbord of international and American musical idioms, Light In The Tunnel is more rooted in songs strongly influenced by Celtic, Gospel, Blues and Folk traditions; it is David’s deeply personal journey on the wings of a finely woven tapestry of voices and music.

“Few people on this earth were born to sing, but lucky for us, David Goldman is one of them.” -Christine Lavin

Well it had to be 105+degrees in the sun, and there was simply no shade to be found. That and the smell of glue wafting in from where African drums were being put together helped to make this an out of body experience.

But the show went on! The performers I saw, Lucky 13, Loretta Hagen, Paul Sachs, Phil Henry, Scott Seltzer were amazing.

Later around 5pm--sun was alarmingly showing no signed of setting or diminishing in any way--I sat in at the Acoustic Live/Tribes Hill tent at an Old Timey/Traditional song jam run by Spuytin Duyvil's Mark Miller. Lot of jammers, including Joe Iadanza, Ya Yas members, Susan Lang, Anna Dagmar, and a great assortment of fiddlers, banjo players, mandolins etc. Still in stifling heat, I had one of Mark Miller's proffered beers, and a few sips in the entire music business started to make so much sense I wondered why I'd never seen the logic of it all.......

Never ceases to amaze me the friendliness of people at this and other festivals, like old-time America where you said hi to people you don't know on the street...

Mainstage I caught great sets by Eliza Gilkyson, Jimmy LaFave and of course the amazing Red Molly......Very much regret I missed Dala's show.
